Massive operation: Customs seizes more than 10,000 ecstasy pills hidden inside a postal parcel
Karachi customs intercepted a package coming from Germany, leading to the discovery of 10,226 MDMA pills valued at over 320 million rupees.
The Air Cargo Control Unit (ACCU) was able to find the drugs during a thorough inspection after the shipment was falsely declared as "clothes, electronics, etc.". The ecstasy pills were hidden inside speakers and LED lamps, in a clear attempt to disguise.
Authorities stated that this seizure prevented a large quantity of drugs from entering the local market in Pakistan, at a time when the use of global mail and shipping routes in smuggling operations is increasing. The Federal Board of Revenue (FBR) clarified that customs teams continue to impose strict oversight on all incoming foreign parcels.
The council noted that enforcement efforts have recently intensified, citing another major operation near the toll plaza between Karachi and Hyderabad. In that operation, Karachi Enforcement Customs intercepted a modified Toyota Land Cruiser Prado containing hidden compartments.
Inside the modified vehicle, 564 smuggled mobile phones were found, valued at 96 million rupees. It was also revealed that the vehicle itself had not paid customs duties. The phones and the Prado were confiscated together, and a criminal report was filed as authorities continue to confront increasingly sophisticated smuggling methods.
