"It has all been spent": The city of Vienna forced to end the 100 euro campaign

The famous repair voucher program in Vienna has exhausted all its funds for 2025. The city provided 50% support for repair costs up to 100 euros, including up to 55 euros for cost estimates, but high demand led to the depletion of the 300,000 euros budget allocated by the city’s environmental advisor, Jürgen Czernohorszky (SPÖ). Since the launch of the program, 55,794 repair operations have been supported.

The initiative, which started in Vienna on April 2, 2025, shows great popularity. Citizens have been keen to repair devices instead of replacing them, in line with sustainability goals. The city’s website has now confirmed that all vouchers for 2025 have been issued, leading to a temporary halt of the campaign.

Despite the current halt, the repair voucher program in Vienna is set to return in 2026. The exact date has not yet been announced, but the success of previous editions since 2020 indicates a continued strong demand. The program has contributed to encouraging responsible consumption and promoting a culture of repair in Vienna.

At the federal level, a similar repair bonus for electrical appliances and bicycles, covering 50% of costs up to 200 euros, was also suspended last May. Austrian citizens have used this program about 1.7 million times, preferring repair over disposal of appliances. Federal Minister Norbert Totschnig (ÖVP) confirmed that the suspension does not mean the end of the program, emphasizing the continued support for repair as part of the circular economy.

Officials indicated that the program funds are currently under evaluation to ensure they are used more specifically and efficiently in the future. The success of the repair voucher initiative highlights public enthusiasm for sustainability, support for regional value chains, and waste reduction through repair.
