100% tariffs threatened & new Trump passport design
Today’s briefing covers new trade threats that could double the cost of some imports, military strikes between the U.S. and Iran, and a redesign of the national passport.
You may see a significant increase in the price of imported goods as President Trump threatens 100% tariffs on countries that impose a Digital Services Tax (DST). These taxes are typically aimed at the revenue of large U.S. technology companies. Trump warned that these new tariffs would override any existing trade agreements with nations that implement such taxes.
National security tensions have risen after the U.S. and Iran traded military strikes on Friday. The exchange followed U.S. accusations that Tehran used a drone to attack a cargo ship on June 26, 2026. These strikes have placed a new strain on fragile ceasefire negotiations in the Middle East.
If you are applying for or renewing a travel document, be aware of a new U.S. passport design featuring President Trump’s image. The unique design was introduced to commemorate the 250th anniversary of American independence.
