Earthquake tremors hit Delhi-NCR & more today
Residents in North India experienced strong tremors today following a major earthquake in Afghanistan, while a Raipur-based businessman faces new U.S. financial restrictions. Security concerns also remain high in the region after a deadly attack on a military base in Karachi.
You may have felt significant ground shaking today if you are in Delhi-NCR or Jammu and Kashmir, following a 6.2-magnitude earthquake centered in Afghanistan. While no major damage or injuries have been reported in India so far, the tremors were strong enough to be felt across several northern states, prompting many people to evacuate buildings.
An Indian national, Alok Choudhari of Raipur, has been sanctioned by the United States for his alleged involvement in the civil war in Sudan. As the CEO of a company called SBL, Choudhari is now blocked from the U.S. financial system, meaning any assets he holds there are frozen and U.S. entities are prohibited from conducting business with him.
In neighboring Pakistan, a terrorist attack on an army base in Karachi has left four soldiers and six attackers dead. The incident is part of a recent increase in extremist violence in the region, which continues to impact security along the border areas.
