BEM UI Plans to Hold Demonstration at Bundaran HI, Jakarta
The Student Executive Board of the University of Indonesia (BEM UI) plans to hold a demonstration in the Bundaran HI area, Jakarta. This action is being taken as a way for students to voice their aspirations regarding the current social and political conditions in Indonesia.
In their demands, the students are urging the administration of President Prabowo Subianto to put an end to what they describe as the "state's colonization of its own people." They are highlighting various policies that they believe do not fully align with the interests of the broader public.
Furthermore, BEM UI is specifically demanding that the government cease repressive actions against citizens. The students are also calling for an end to interventions by the TNI (Indonesian National Armed Forces) and Polri (Indonesian National Police) in civil spaces, in order to safeguard freedom of speech and democracy in Indonesia.
This demonstration has garnered public attention as it involves student elements in overseeing government policy. As of now, the police are expected to monitor the protest to ensure it remains orderly and safe for the general public in the vicinity of the Bundaran HI location.
