Dental Care Costs in Indonesia Are Among the Highest in Southeast Asia
Recent data from the World Health Organization (WHO) in 2022 revealed a surprising fact regarding public health in Indonesia. The report indicates that expenditure on dental care in Indonesia is the second highest in the Southeast Asian region.
This condition has become a concern for many parties because dental health is an important part of overall bodily well-being. These high costs often become a barrier for the public to receive routine dental care, causing many people to only seek medical help when their dental conditions are already severe.
Several factors are suspected to be the cause of the high cost of dental care in Indonesia. One of them is the dependence on medical equipment and dental care materials, most of which still have to be imported from abroad. In addition, the uneven distribution of dental specialists across the country also affects the price of these health services.
The government and relevant parties are expected to find solutions to reduce dental care costs so that they are more affordable for the wider community. Increasing access to more affordable dental health facilities and education on the importance of early prevention are crucial steps that need to be taken in the future.
