Minister of ATR/BPN AHY Studies Swiss Hydropower Technology to Optimize Water Energy in Indonesia

Minister of Agrarian Affairs and Spatial Planning/Head of the National Land Agency (ATR/BPN), Agus Harimurti Yudhoyono (AHY), recently conducted a working visit to Switzerland. During the visit, he specifically studied the Hydropower Plant (PLTA) technology developed by the country. This step was taken as part of the Indonesian government's efforts to maximize the potential of renewable energy in the country.

Indonesia currently possesses vast hydropower potential, reaching 95 gigawatts (GW). However, the utilization of this potential still needs to be improved to support the country's continuously increasing electricity needs. By studying technology from Switzerland, the government hopes to adopt more efficient and environmentally friendly systems for water resource management in Indonesia.

Switzerland is known as one of the countries with the best water energy management in the world. The technology they use is capable of converting water flow into electricity with a very high level of efficiency. AHY stated that this knowledge transfer is crucial so that Indonesia not only possesses great potential but is also capable of managing it independently and sustainably.

In addition to the technological aspect, this visit also discussed the importance of proper spatial planning in energy infrastructure development. The construction of hydropower plants requires mature land planning so as not to damage the ecosystems around rivers or reservoirs. Therefore, the Ministry of ATR/BPN plays an important role in ensuring that the location of energy infrastructure development complies with applicable spatial planning regulations.

In conclusion, the government's move to learn from developed countries like Switzerland is a strategic effort to achieve national energy transition targets. With a combination of modern technology and sound spatial planning, Indonesia is expected to soon optimize its 95 GW of hydropower potential for a cleaner and more sustainable energy future.
