Adolescent Mental Health in Indonesia: One in Three Experience Disorders
Recent data reveals a concerning state of mental health among Indonesia's younger generation. Reports indicate that one in three adolescents in Indonesia currently suffers from a mental health disorder. This figure has become a serious concern for many parties, especially parents and educational institutions.
The most common mental health disorder found in Indonesia is depression. Based on available data, approximately 2 percent of children and adolescents aged 15 to 24 have been diagnosed with this condition. Depression often arises due to environmental pressure, social issues, and high academic burdens.
In addition to depression, experts also highlight the importance of early detection of behavioral changes in adolescents. Many teenagers find it difficult to express their feelings, which often leads to mental health issues not being addressed promptly. A lack of understanding regarding mental health in society also acts as a barrier to providing appropriate assistance.
The government and various health organizations have begun to increase education regarding the importance of maintaining mental health from an early age. This step is expected to help adolescents become more open and seek professional help if they feel overwhelmed. Support from family and the surrounding environment is considered the key to aiding the recovery of adolescent mental health in Indonesia.
