Heroic Action of a Doctor in NTT Who Continued a Cesarean Section During an Earthquake
A moving event took place in East Nusa Tenggara (NTT) when a 7.7-magnitude earthquake struck the region on Saturday (08/15). Amidst a highly dangerous situation, a doctor named Maria Florida Nogo Kelen remained calm while performing her duties in the operating room.
At the time, Maria was performing an emergency cesarean section at a hospital. When the tremors of the earthquake began to be felt strongly, the hospital building shook violently. Despite the panic and fear, Maria remained focused on saving the lives of the mother and baby she was attending to.
In her testimony, Maria mentioned that she prayed for God's protection amidst the shaking. She did not leave the operating table because she realized that her patient's life depended entirely on the medical procedure currently underway.
Thanks to Maria's courage and professionalism, the delivery surgery was successfully completed. The mother and the newborn were reported to be safe and healthy, even though the situation outside the operating room was in a state of emergency due to the earthquake.
This story serves as proof of the high dedication of medical personnel in Indonesia when facing disaster situations. Maria Florida Nogo Kelen's actions have received much appreciation for her bravery in prioritizing patient safety over her own.
