UMS and Mahidol University Collaborate to Improve Health for Elderly with Diabetes
Universitas Muhammadiyah Surakarta (UMS) has established an international partnership with Mahidol University, Thailand. The primary focus of this collaboration is to strengthen community physiotherapy programs specifically aimed at the elderly suffering from diabetes mellitus.
This program is designed to provide better health support for the community. Its main activities include education on the importance of appropriate physical activity for diabetics, as well as practical exercise sessions guided by experts from both universities.
In addition to physical exercise, the program also provides guidance through a 'home program.' This assistance aims to ensure that the elderly can remain active and maintain their health independently in their own homes with proper supervision.
This collaboration also serves as a platform for knowledge exchange between academics and practitioners from UMS and Mahidol University. By sharing experiences and research, both institutions hope to create more effective physiotherapy treatment methods for diabetes patients in the future.
This step is expected to improve the quality of life for the elderly in Indonesia. With integrated physiotherapy support, it is hoped that the risk of complications due to diabetes mellitus can be reduced, allowing the elderly to enjoy their later years in better health and fitness.
