Free Nutritious Meal Program: A Strategic Step in Building the Quality of Indonesia's Human Resources
The Indonesian government is currently focusing its attention on improving the quality of human resources through the Free Nutritious Meal (MBG) program. This initiative is designed to ensure that school children receive sufficient daily nutritional intake, which is considered the primary foundation for creating a healthy and intelligent future generation.
This program does not only focus on physical health but is also part of a grand strategy to strengthen human capital in Indonesia. With their nutritional needs met, students are expected to have better cognitive abilities, thereby enabling them to absorb lessons at school more optimally.
In a global context, this step is in line with practices already implemented by developed countries such as Japan. Japan has long applied a similar program to ensure that its public health standards remain high from an early age. The experiences of other countries serve as an important reference for Indonesia in designing the distribution system and selecting appropriate menus for students.
Beyond the health aspect, this program is also expected to have a positive impact on the local economy. By involving food suppliers from farmers and small business owners around schools, the MBG program has the potential to drive the regional economy while maintaining the sustainability of the national food supply.
The success of this program is highly dependent on collaboration between the government, schools, and the community. If implemented well, the Free Nutritious Meal program is expected to be a significant long-term investment for the nation's progress, as well as helping Indonesia face the challenges of global competition in the future.
