Ahead of the 79th Anniversary of the Independence of the Republic of Indonesia
Indonesia is preparing to welcome the 79th anniversary of the Independence of the Republic of Indonesia, which falls on August 17, 2024. This year, the government is planning a special celebration as it will be held in two locations simultaneously: the Nusantara Capital City (IKN) and Jakarta.
The flag-raising ceremony at IKN will be the main focus of attention for the Indonesian people. President Joko Widodo is scheduled to lead the ceremony in person as part of the transition toward the new center of government. Meanwhile, the ceremony in Jakarta will continue to be held solemnly to maintain the state traditions that have been practiced for decades.
Various technical and logistical preparations are being carried out by the national committee to ensure the smooth running of the events in both locations. The government has also invited community leaders, representatives of friendly nations, and the general public to participate in this celebration, whether in person or through media broadcasts.
In addition to the official ceremonies, people in various regions across Indonesia have also begun decorating their neighborhoods with the Red and White flag and banners. Various traditional competitions and social activities are planned to enliven the festive atmosphere of independence at the village and sub-district levels.
This year's celebration is expected to be a momentum for all Indonesian people to strengthen unity and the spirit of mutual cooperation (gotong royong). The government invites the public to interpret independence by continuing to contribute to national development for a more advanced future for Indonesia.
