UNAIR Expert Highlights the Importance of Improving Empathy in the Indonesian Healthcare System
The issue regarding the lack of empathy among medical personnel toward patients has once again become a hot topic of conversation among the Indonesian public. Many complaints have emerged on social media highlighting the attitude of healthcare workers when providing services in hospitals and community health centers (puskesmas).
Responding to this phenomenon, experts from Universitas Airlangga (UNAIR) suggest that this problem cannot be viewed solely from the perspective of individual medical personnel. According to them, a comprehensive evaluation of the current healthcare system in Indonesia is necessary.
One of the main factors highlighted is the extremely high workload of medical personnel. Heavy job pressure often leaves healthcare workers feeling exhausted, which affects the way they communicate and interact with patients.
Furthermore, UNAIR experts emphasize the importance of a health education curriculum that focuses more on humanistic aspects. The ability to communicate well and a sense of empathy must be taught with the same importance as technical medical skills.
In conclusion, improving the healthcare system in Indonesia requires collaboration between the government, educational institutions, and hospitals. It is hoped that with better systemic improvements, medical personnel will be able to provide more humane and comfortable services for the entire community.
