Indonesia and the United States Collaborate to Develop Environmentally Friendly Coal Technology
Indonesia and the United States have agreed to strengthen cooperation in the energy sector through the development of coal gasification technology. The main focus of this collaboration is the utilization of low-calorie coal, which has been abundant in Indonesia but has not yet been processed optimally.
The technology to be used in this project is known as TRIG, or Transport Integrated Gasification. This technology was developed by the Energy & Environmental Research Center (EERC) to convert coal into cleaner and more efficient gas. Through this method, coal can be processed into energy products that have higher added value for the national industry.
This cooperation is expected to assist Indonesia in managing natural resources more sustainably. Furthermore, the use of gasification technology is considered a strategic step to support national energy security while reducing the environmental impact of traditional coal usage.
The Indonesian government welcomes this partnership as part of its efforts to modernize the domestic energy industry. Through technology transfer from the United States, Indonesia hopes to increase energy production efficiency while opening new economic opportunities for the mining sector.
Moving forward, this project will be continuously monitored to ensure its alignment with the needs of the industry in Indonesia. If successful, this TRIG technology has the potential to become a new standard in coal processing within the country, supporting a better energy transition in the future.
