The Vital Role of Pharmacists in Maintaining National Health Resilience
The Head of the Indonesian Food and Drug Authority (BPOM), Taruna Ikrar, emphasized the crucial role of pharmacists as the frontline in strengthening the health resilience system in Indonesia. According to him, pharmacists hold a major responsibility to ensure the availability and safety of medicines for the entire community.
In his statement, Taruna Ikrar encouraged pharmacists to implement a 'One Health' approach. This approach is a collaborative strategy that recognizes that human health is closely linked to animal and environmental health. In this way, the risk of infectious diseases transmitting from animals to humans can be suppressed more effectively.
Furthermore, pharmacists are expected to be educators for the public regarding the rational use of medication. Amidst continuously evolving global health challenges, a good understanding of medicines is essential to prevent misuse and improve the effectiveness of treatment in various regions.
Strengthening the role of pharmacists is considered a strategic step in facing future pandemic threats.
