Indonesia Suffers IDR 96 Trillion Loss Due to Cybercrime, Bank Indonesia Enhances Security
Indonesia is facing serious challenges in the field of digital security. Based on the latest data, the country has experienced economic losses reaching US$6.2 billion, or approximately IDR 96 trillion, due to various forms of cybercrime. This figure has become a major concern for the government and financial institutions in the country.
Senior Deputy Governor of Bank Indonesia, Destry Damayanti, explained that one of the main causes of this increased risk is the development of Artificial Intelligence (AI) technology. Although AI brings many benefits, this technology is also often misused by irresponsible parties to commit fraud, data theft, and various other digital criminal acts.
Responding to this situation, Bank Indonesia is currently preparing strategic steps to strengthen the national cybersecurity system. This effort is being carried out to protect the public from digital fraud threats that are becoming increasingly sophisticated and difficult to detect. The main focus of this step is to improve protection for payment systems and customer data throughout Indonesia.
In addition to strengthening the system, Bank Indonesia also emphasizes the importance of education for the public. Users of digital financial services are urged to be more careful in maintaining the security of their personal data. The public is asked not to easily provide confidential information, such as passwords or OTP codes, to any party.
Cybersecurity is now a top priority for Indonesia's financial sector. With a combination of strengthening security technology and public awareness, it is hoped that losses due to cybercrime can be significantly reduced in the future.
