Fishermen in Kendari Claim They Were Asked for a IDR 50 Million Fine, PSDKP Provides Clarification
A number of fishermen in Kendari City, Southeast Sulawesi, recently reported the occurrence of unsettling extortion. They claimed that they were asked for a fine of IDR 50 million by someone claiming to be a representative of the relevant ministry.
The fishermen objected to the demand for such a large sum of money. According to their statement, the unknown individual approached them and threatened to impose sanctions if the fine was not paid immediately.
Responding to the report, the Marine and Fisheries Resources Surveillance (PSDKP) immediately provided a clarification. They firmly denied having conducted any levies or requested fines from fishermen in the Kendari area.
PSDKP stated that they have never assigned staff or representatives to collect fines directly in the field. They emphasized that all forms of legal procedures or administrative sanctions must be carried out officially in accordance with applicable regulations.
Currently, the authorities are conducting further investigations to uncover the identity of the perpetrator who misused the ministry's name. Fishermen are urged to remain vigilant and immediately report to the police if they receive similar threats or demands for money in the future.
