Taiwan's KMT Party Urges Government to Double Cash Aid for Citizens

Taiwan's main opposition party, the Kuomintang (KMT), issued a formal demand to President Lai Ching-te on Tuesday (August 18). They are calling on the government to increase the cash assistance distribution plan for the public, which is scheduled to be implemented next year.

Currently, the Taiwanese government has planned to provide cash assistance of NT$10,000 (New Taiwan Dollars) to citizens. However, the KMT believes that this amount needs to be increased so that the impact is more significant for household economies amidst the challenges of rising living costs.

In its proposal, the KMT urges the government to double the value of the assistance to NT$20,000. The party argues that increasing the amount of cash aid will provide more significant support for the purchasing power of the Taiwanese people in the future.

To date, there has been no official response from the presidential office regarding the request to increase the aid value. Discussions regarding this budget and social welfare policy are expected to continue in the Taiwanese parliament in the coming period.

For Indonesians living or having business ties in Taiwan, this policy is quite important to note. Changes in the Taiwanese government's fiscal policy can affect local economic conditions, which indirectly impacts the cost of living in the region.
