Preventing the Spread of Bird Flu, Quarantine Officers Reject Poultry Without Certificates

The Indonesian Quarantine Agency (Barantin) has just taken firm action against an attempt to illegally import animals. Officers in the Bangka Belitung region rejected the entry of three chickens that were not equipped with official health certificates.

This step was taken as a form of early prevention against the risk of spreading animal diseases, particularly bird flu. Even though the number of poultry brought in was only three, the quarantine authorities continued to carry out standard procedures without exception for the sake of biosecurity in the region.

According to Barantin, every animal entering a region must undergo strict inspection. Animals that do not have health documents are considered to have the potential to carry viruses or bacteria that are dangerous to the local poultry population as well as public health at large.

This case serves as an important reminder to the public regarding the importance of complying with inter-regional animal movement regulations. A health certificate is an absolute requirement that guarantees that the animal is in a healthy condition and does not transmit diseases.

Moving forward, the quarantine authorities will continue to tighten supervision at entry points across Indonesia. Cooperation from the public is highly expected so as not to bring animals without official documents in order to maintain animal health stability in all corners of the country.
