Indonesia-India Relations: The Importance of Political Commitment Behind Cooperation
The visit of Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi to Indonesia has become a significant highlight in the diplomatic relations between the two countries. During his visit, various activities were carried out, ranging from a tour of the Prambanan Temple to the awarding of a star of honor as a symbol of close friendship.
In the meeting, Indonesia and India successfully agreed upon 16 memoranda of understanding (MoUs) across various sectors. This cooperation covers the fields of defense, economy, and technology development. This step is expected to strengthen the position of both countries as strategic partners in the Asian region.
However, observers emphasize that the signing of memoranda of understanding is only the initial step. These documents are not a guarantee of successful cooperation if they are not accompanied by concrete actions in the field. Therefore, political commitment or 'political will' from the governments of both countries is the main key to ensuring that these agreements can provide maximum benefits.
Moving forward, the implementation of these 16 memoranda of understanding will continue to be monitored. The public hopes that this cooperation will not just stop on paper, but will be able to provide a positive impact on economic growth and security stability in both Indonesia and India.
