Indonesian Government Pushes for Massive Exploration to Increase Oil and Gas Production
Minister of Energy and Mineral Resources (ESDM), Bahlil Lahadalia, has officially pushed for the acceleration of oil and gas exploration across various regions in Indonesia. This move is taken as a strategic effort by the government to increase national energy reserves and reduce dependence on imported fuel from abroad.
Currently, Indonesia has many oil and gas basins that have not been optimally managed. Bahlil emphasized that the government will provide ease of licensing for companies wishing to conduct exploration in these areas. The government's main focus is to reactivate old fields and open opportunities in new working areas that have the potential for large reserves.
In addition to increasing production, this policy aims to maintain national energy security in the future. With increased domestic oil and gas production, it is hoped that energy prices for the public and industry in Indonesia can become more stable. The government also hopes that this step can attract more foreign investment to Indonesia's energy sector.
Although the focus is on increasing production, the government continues to emphasize the importance of maintaining environmental standards in every exploration activity. Companies involved are required to follow strict regulations so that drilling activities do not damage the ecosystem around the work site. This is part of the government's commitment to managing natural resources responsibly.
As a concluding step, the government targets that these exploration activities can provide a tangible economic impact in the next few years. With the support of simpler regulations and attractive incentives, it is hoped that Indonesia's energy independence target can be achieved soon for the welfare of all people.
