The Importance of the Role of PMI Bandung City in Handling Mental Health
Member of the Indonesian House of Representatives, Farhan, has encouraged the Indonesian Red Cross (PMI) of Bandung City to expand the scope of its services. He hopes that the organization will not only focus on blood donation and disaster response, but also begin to actively contribute to addressing mental health issues in the community.
According to Farhan, the issue of mental health has currently become an increasingly real challenge for residents of large cities like Bandung. Many people are in need of psychological support, yet access to such services is sometimes still limited. Therefore, the involvement of PMI is considered highly strategic because the organization possesses a vast network of volunteers reaching down to the grassroots level.
Farhan suggests that PMI Bandung City should begin providing basic training to its volunteers regarding psychological first aid. With trained volunteers, individuals experiencing mental pressure or stress can immediately receive initial assistance before being referred to professionals or hospitals.
This step is expected to strengthen PMI's role as a humanitarian organization that is adaptive to the needs of the times. If this plan can be realized, PMI Bandung City will become a pioneer in integrating physical and mental health services more comprehensively for residents.
In conclusion, support from various parties is highly necessary for this initiative to run effectively. Farhan is committed to continuing to support efforts to strengthen PMI's capacity so that its benefits can be felt directly by the wider community in Bandung City.
