GMNI East Java Regional Conference in Nganjuk Ends in Chaos
The Regional Conference (Konferda) of the East Java Regional Leadership Council of the Indonesian National Student Movement (DPD GMNI) held in Nganjuk Regency ended in chaos. The event, which was supposed to be a forum for organizational deliberation, was instead marred by acts of violence inside the session hall.
Based on reports from the field, the chaos began when the atmosphere of the session heated up. The situation became uncontrollable when a number of participants began throwing chairs and glasses inside the room. This action caused the atmosphere to become chaotic and endangered the participants in attendance.
As a result of these actions, the condition of the session area suffered significant damage. Shards of glass from broken glasses and lights were scattered on the floor, littering the entire area of the session hall. Fortunately, there were no reports of serious injuries from either the organizers or the participants.
To date, there has been no official statement from the GMNI East Java board regarding the exact cause of the tension. Local police are expected to provide oversight so that future student organization activities can proceed in an orderly and safe manner without similar incidents recurring.
