The Use of Artificial Intelligence Among University Students: How Does It Impact Reasoning Skills?

Artificial Intelligence (AI) is now increasingly integrated into daily life, especially within university environments. This technology is frequently used by students to help complete academic assignments more quickly and efficiently. However, this phenomenon raises important questions regarding its influence on students' critical thinking and reasoning abilities.

A research team from the Student Creativity Program for Social Humanities Research (PKM-RSH) at Universitas Negeri Semarang (UNNES) recently conducted an in-depth study on this issue. This research specifically highlights students who are pursuing education as prospective mathematics teachers. The main focus of the study is to find the correlation between students' level of dependence on AI and their reasoning skills.

In the research process, the UNNES Aillusion team collected data to see the extent to which AI influences students' thought patterns in solving mathematical problems. As prospective educators, reasoning skills are crucial because they will eventually teach logic to students in schools. If dependence on technology is too high, it is feared that students' independent analytical abilities may decline.

The results of this study are expected to provide a clear picture for the world of education in Indonesia. These findings could later serve as a reference for lecturers and university administrators in determining policies regarding the use of technology in the classroom. The goal is for students to continue utilizing technological advancements without losing their fundamental critical thinking skills.

In conclusion, technological development is indeed unavoidable, but its use must remain wise. This research from UNNES serves as a reminder that although AI is a sophisticated tool, human reasoning ability remains the primary asset that must continue to be sharpened during the learning process.
