Ministry of Health: The Majority of People with Depression in Indonesia Have Not Received Healthcare Services
The Ministry of Health of the Republic of Indonesia has reported a concerning fact regarding mental health in the country. Based on data from the Institute for Health Metrics and Evaluation (IHME), nine out of ten people suffering from depression in Indonesia have not received adequate access or healthcare services.
This data also highlights that mental disorders have now become the second-largest cause of the loss of healthy life years for the community. This indicates that mental health issues are a serious challenge that requires more attention from both the government and the wider public.
The lack of access to healthcare services is caused by several factors, including the social stigma that is still attached to those suffering from mental disorders. Furthermore, the limited number of mental health facilities and professional personnel in various regions also remains a major obstacle for the public in obtaining appropriate medical assistance.
The government continues to strive to increase public awareness regarding the importance of mental health. This step is being taken by integrating mental health services into the primary healthcare system so that the public can more easily obtain access to treatment and psychological support from an early stage.
In conclusion, addressing the issue of depression requires cooperation between the government, medical personnel, and family support. It is hoped that with improvements in access to healthcare services, people with depression in Indonesia can promptly receive proper treatment to improve their quality of life.
