Ministry of Health Expands Tuberculosis Screening to Islamic Boarding Schools and Dense Settlements

The Indonesian Ministry of Health (Kemenkes) is now expanding its efforts to actively detect tuberculosis (TB) cases across all regions. This step was taken to curb the spread of the disease by conducting direct health screenings for high-risk communities.

The main focus of this program is targeting Islamic boarding school environments and densely populated residential areas. These locations were chosen because they have a high density of residents, meaning the risk of tuberculosis bacteria transmission between individuals becomes faster if not detected immediately.

In its implementation, the Ministry of Health is using a screening method involving chest X-rays. This technology was chosen because it is considered effective in detecting early symptoms of TB in the lungs before the patient's condition becomes more severe or they transmit the disease to others around them.

This program is part of the government's commitment to achieving the target of eliminating tuberculosis in Indonesia. By finding cases earlier, patients can immediately receive appropriate treatment, allowing the healing process to proceed faster and the chain of transmission to be broken.

The government hopes that the public will participate actively in these screening activities. Early detection is crucial so that public health is maintained and the burden of tuberculosis in Indonesia can be significantly reduced in the future.
