Forest and Land Fires Continue to Threaten Mountainous Areas in East Java
Forest and land fires continue to plague a number of mountainous areas in East Java. To date, hotspots are reportedly still visible in the Mount Bromo and Mount Argopuro areas, causing concern for the surrounding community and the management of the conservation areas.
Dry weather conditions and strong winds are the main factors making the firefighting process difficult. Joint personnel from the Regional Disaster Management Agency (BPBD), the military (TNI), the police (Polri), and local residents continue to make efforts to extinguish the fires manually or by using available equipment in locations that are difficult to reach.
As a result of these fires, several hiking trails and tourist areas around Mount Bromo have been forced to close temporarily for safety reasons. In addition, the smoke haze produced by the fires has also begun to impact air quality in the surrounding regions, so residents are advised to always wear masks when engaging in outdoor activities.
Authorities continue to monitor the development of the situation on the ground every day. The public is asked to remain vigilant and not to engage in activities that could potentially trigger fires, such as burning trash or discarding cigarette butts carelessly in dry forest areas.
Firefighting efforts will continue to be carried out optimally until all hotspots are completely extinguished. The local government has also prepared environmental recovery measures to restore the ecosystems damaged by the fires once the situation is declared safe.
