Sexual Violence Case at NTB Islamic Boarding School: TGB Promises to Oversee Legal Process
A case of alleged sexual violence involving the head of an Islamic boarding school (pesantren) in West Nusa Tenggara (NTB) is currently drawing public attention. The case emerged following reports from victims who felt harmed by the actions of the individual leading the boarding school.
Responding to this situation, former NTB Governor, Tuan Guru Bajang (TGB) Muhammad Zainul Majdi, expressed his deep concern. He emphasized that acts of sexual violence cannot be justified in any form, especially within an environment of religious education that should be a safe place for students.
TGB promised to oversee the ongoing legal process to ensure it proceeds transparently and fairly. He requested that the police work professionally in gathering evidence and listening to statements from witnesses and victims so that the perpetrator receives a punishment commensurate with the applicable laws.
Beyond the legal process, this case has also sparked a broad discussion regarding the importance of child protection in educational environments. Many parties are urging the government and relevant institutions to tighten supervision in Islamic boarding schools to prevent similar incidents from occurring in the future.
