DPR Urged to Respond to Constitutional Court Ruling Regarding Gibran via Working Committee
The House of Representatives (DPR) of the Republic of Indonesia is currently under public scrutiny regarding its response to the Constitutional Court (MK) ruling on vice-presidential candidate requirements related to Gibran Rakabuming Raka. Several parties are urging the legislative body not to remain silent in responding to the unfolding legal dynamics.
The Indonesian Public Institute (IPI) has officially proposed that the DPR form a Working Committee (Panja). This proposal emerged as a step to examine the implications of the Constitutional Court's ruling more deeply so as not to cause confusion among the general public.
In its statement, those supporting this proposal emphasized that the DPR must indeed not intervene in the Constitutional Court's ruling. This is because every Constitutional Court ruling is final and legally binding. However, the DPR is considered to have an important role in ensuring that legal and political processes proceed within the correct corridors.
The formation of a Working Committee is expected to serve as a platform for the DPR to conduct oversight and transparent discussions. With the existence of a Working Committee, it is hoped that all issues arising after the Constitutional Court's ruling can be discussed objectively without infringing upon the authority of the judiciary.
To date, there has been no official decision from the DPR regarding the proposal to form the Working Committee. The public is still waiting for concrete steps from their representatives in addressing this issue, which is considered crucial for the future of Indonesian politics.
