Government Encourages Technology Transfer in BYD Electric Vehicle Investment
The Indonesian government continues to strengthen its commitment to developing the electric vehicle ecosystem in the country. One of the strategic steps taken is ensuring that the global automotive company, BYD, conducts technology transfer to the local workforce during its investment period in Indonesia.
This step was taken so that the presence of the Chinese electric vehicle manufacturer is not just about selling products, but also providing added value to the national automotive industry. With technology transfer, it is hoped that Indonesian workers can improve their skills in producing and maintaining sophisticated electric vehicle technology.
In addition to focusing on human resources, the government is also encouraging BYD to increase the use of local components in their vehicle assembly process. This policy aims to strengthen the domestic industry supply chain and reduce the selling price of electric vehicles to make them more affordable for the wider community.
On the other hand, BYD has stated its readiness to cooperate with local partners in building production facilities in Indonesia. The company is committed to complying with government regulations regarding the Domestic Component Level (TKDN) as a primary requirement for obtaining investment incentives.
Overall, this collaboration is expected to accelerate the clean energy transition in Indonesia. With the support of global technology and a skilled local workforce, Indonesia is optimistic that it can become a competitive electric vehicle production hub in the Southeast Asian region.
