US Rejects Strait of Hormuz Tariffs & Major Venezuela Earthquake
Tensions in the Middle East are rising amid disputes over international trade routes, while a major natural disaster has struck South America. The US has strongly rejected Iran's imposition of tariffs in the Strait of Hormuz, amid ongoing diplomatic efforts. In another part of the world, a devastating earthquake has claimed hundreds of lives in Venezuela.
Global economic stability is under threat following the US rejection of Iran's plan to impose tariffs on ships in the Strait of Hormuz, a vital global oil shipping route. The US Secretary of State emphasized that Iran's move could trigger trade chaos. The situation has heated up following claims of an Israeli military strike on Tehran, although Egypt is now committed to facilitating negotiations over the next 60 days to ease the conflict through a new agreement (MoU) mediated by Pakistan.
Earthquakes with magnitudes of 7.2 and 7.5 have shaken Venezuela, killing at least 188 people. These powerful tremors destroyed buildings in the capital, Caracas, in June 2026. At the same time, a magnitude 7.2 earthquake also struck Iwate Prefecture, Japan; however, local authorities reported no fatalities or major damage, even though the tremors were felt as far as Tokyo.
