Indonesian Healthcare Workers Face Burnout Crisis

A professor from the Faculty of Public Health at the University of Indonesia (FKM UI) has revealed that healthcare workers in Indonesia are currently facing a situation described as a "silent crisis." This condition is closely linked to the extremely high workload at various healthcare facilities across the country.

According to the report, the main issue being faced is the lack of clear regulations regarding maximum working hours for medical personnel. Furthermore, many healthcare facilities have not yet implemented routine fatigue and burnout monitoring systems for their employees.

Without policies regarding "mandatory rest," healthcare workers are at risk of experiencing a decline in their physical and mental condition. This not only impacts the health of the medical personnel themselves but also has the potential to affect the quality of care provided to patients in hospitals and community health centers (puskesmas).

Experts emphasize the importance of improving human resource management in the health sector. Steps such as more humane working hour arrangements and mental health support systems are highly necessary so that healthcare workers can work safely and optimally.

It is hoped that the government and healthcare facility managers can immediately review working hour regulations. By paying more attention to the well-being of medical personnel, it is expected that the quality of the health system in Indonesia can improve and this burnout crisis can be resolved soon.
