Government Affirms Strict Action Against Forest-Burning Corporations
The Indonesian government has reaffirmed its commitment to taking firm action against any company proven to have engaged in forest burning. This policy was adopted as a serious measure to prevent forest and land fires (karhutla) that occur frequently every year and cause air pollution in various regions.
In its statement, the authorities declared that there should be no cherry-picking in law enforcement. Any corporation proven to have intentionally burned land for the purpose of opening plantation areas will face severe legal sanctions, ranging from administrative fines to the revocation of business licenses.
In addition to imposing sanctions, the government continues to strengthen on-site supervision through integrated patrols. Communities around forest areas are urged to participate in monitoring and reporting if they see suspicious activities that have the potential to cause major fires.
Fair law enforcement is expected to serve as a deterrent for large companies. This step is considered crucial for preserving the environment and protecting public health from the adverse effects of haze, which often disrupts daily activities.
In closing, the government hopes that cooperation between law enforcement agencies, local governments, and the community can create a safer environment. Efforts to prevent forest fires are not only the responsibility of the government but also a collective responsibility for the sake of a better future for Indonesia's natural landscape.
