UMY Expert: Health AI Technology Must Be Distributed Even to Remote Areas of Indonesia

The application of artificial intelligence (AI) in the healthcare sector in Indonesia is currently in the spotlight. Experts emphasize that this technology should not only focus on large hospitals in major cities, but must also be accessible to all levels of society.

A professor from Universitas Muhammadiyah Yogyakarta (UMY) stated that the development of AI in the medical field must be based on strong scientific evidence. This is important so that the technology truly provides tangible benefits for patients and medical personnel in various regions.

Currently, the use of AI is still limited to healthcare facilities that have sophisticated infrastructure. In fact, the biggest health challenges in Indonesia are often found in areas far from city centers, where access to specialists is still very limited.

If AI is only effective in large hospitals, then this technology cannot yet be considered an inclusive national solution. Therefore, collaborative efforts are needed between the government, technology developers, and educational institutions to ensure that AI can be applied evenly throughout all corners of the country.

Moving forward, the integration of AI is expected to help accelerate the diagnosis and treatment process for the wider community. With equitable access to technology, it is hoped that the quality of healthcare services in Indonesia can improve significantly and become fairer for all citizens.
