Indonesia's Digital Competitiveness Increases, Human Resource Quality Becomes Main Challenge
The latest East Ventures-Digital Competitiveness Index (EV-DCI) report for 2026 shows positive news for technological development in Indonesia. Overall, the national digital competitiveness has experienced a quite significant increase compared to previous years.
However, behind these rising figures, there is a major challenge that must be faced: the decline in the quality of human resources (HR). The HR pillar, which is one of the important indicators in this assessment, actually shows a downward trend. This has become a serious concern for the government and the education sector.
The gap between the needs of the digital industry and the availability of competent talent remains a primary issue. Many companies find it difficult to find workers who possess the technical skills that meet the standards of the rapidly evolving digital industry today.
To address this problem, closer collaboration between the world of education and the industrial sector is needed. More intensive and relevant digital skills training is highly necessary so that Indonesia is not only superior in infrastructure but also possesses local talent capable of competing on the global stage.
Overall, the increase in digital competitiveness is a good first step for the Indonesian economy. Future focus must be directed toward improving the quality of human resources so that technological progress can provide a more maximal impact on the welfare of the community.
