Head of BPOM Asserts Indonesia Must Become a Major Player in Global Health Technology
The Head of the Indonesian Food and Drug Authority (BPOM), Taruna Ikrar, recently attended an international forum at Tsinghua University, China. During the event, he presented important insights regarding the future of the health sector in Indonesia amidst the rapid development of global technology.
In the forum, experts discussed various cutting-edge innovations, ranging from artificial intelligence (AI) and biotechnology to gene therapy and cell therapy. These technologies are considered the future of the healthcare world, which will transform the way diseases are treated in the future.
Taruna Ikrar emphasized that Indonesia must not merely be a market for health technology products from other countries. According to him, Indonesia must be capable of developing its own innovations in order to compete and provide greater benefits to the public domestically.
This step is expected to encourage collaboration between Indonesia and international institutions in the development of health research. By leveraging new-generation technology, Indonesia is expected to be able to improve the quality of national health services independently.
Indonesia's presence at this forum serves as an initial step to strengthen the country's position on the world health map. The main focus moving forward is to enhance human resource capabilities and technological infrastructure so that Indonesia becomes a key player in the global health industry.
