Pertamina Geothermal Energy Targets 1 GW Capacity by 2028
PT Pertamina Geothermal Energy Tbk (PGEO) is currently accelerating the development of geothermal energy in Indonesia. This step is being taken as part of the company's strategy to increase national clean energy production capacity over the next few years.
One of the strategic steps being taken is through the assignment of the Cubadak Panti Geothermal Working Area (WKP) project in West Sumatra. The President Director of PGEO stated that this assignment is an important breakthrough to accelerate the utilization of geothermal potential in the region.
Development of this project is expected to make a significant contribution to the company's targets. PGEO aims to reach an installed capacity of 1 Gigawatt (GW) by 2028.
This effort is in line with the Indonesian government's commitment to increasing the new and renewable energy mix. By utilizing geothermal resources, Indonesia is expected to reduce its dependence on fossil fuels and support the transition toward more environmentally friendly energy.
The success of this project will be a major step for PGEO in strengthening its position in the clean energy sector. The government and related parties continue to monitor the progress of this project so that the 1 GW capacity target can be achieved according to the planned schedule.
