Indonesian Health Council Responds to Alleged Patient Bullying on Social Media
The Indonesian Health Council (KKI) recently issued a firm response regarding alleged acts of bullying committed by medical personnel and health workers against BPJS patients on social media. This case emerged following the upload of content deemed to lack empathy and potentially demean the dignity of patients.
In its statement, the KKI expressed deep regret over the incident. According to them, unprofessional behavior by health workers in public spaces, including social media, severely damages professional ethics, which should uphold human values and respect for patients.
Bullying patients, especially those using BPJS services, is considered a serious violation of patient rights. The KKI emphasized that every health worker has a moral and legal obligation to maintain patient confidentiality and dignity in any situation, both inside and outside the hospital environment.
Currently, the authorities are conducting further investigations regarding the post to determine appropriate disciplinary measures. This incident serves as a reminder to all health workers in Indonesia to be wiser in using social media and to maintain professionalism while providing health services to the public.
This case is expected to be an important lesson for the medical world in Indonesia. The KKI is committed to continuously monitoring the behavior of health workers to ensure that health services in Indonesia continue to operate with full respect and empathy for all levels of society.
