The Nyamplung Plant: A Wild Species with Potential as a Future Fuel
Indonesia continues its efforts to find environmentally friendly alternative energy sources for the future. One plant currently attracting the attention of experts is nyamplung. This plant grows wild in various coastal areas and forests across Indonesia, yet it has proven to have great potential as a plant-based fuel or biofuel.
Nyamplung was chosen as an energy source because its seeds contain a very high oil content, even higher than other plants such as jatropha. The main advantage of nyamplung is that it does not compete with food requirements. This differs from palm oil, which is also used for cooking oil; therefore, the use of nyamplung will not disrupt food availability for the public.
