Bawaslu Reminds of the Importance of In-Depth Study Regarding E-Voting Plans in Elections
The General Election Supervisory Agency (Bawaslu) has provided a response regarding the discourse on implementing an electronic voting or e-voting system in Indonesian general elections. Bawaslu emphasized that the plan must not be carried out in a rush and requires very thorough preparation.
According to Bawaslu, the e-voting system has high complexity, thus requiring an in-depth study from various aspects. This evaluation includes the readiness of technological infrastructure, the security of voter data, and guarantees of transparency in the vote-counting process so that it remains trustworthy to the public.
In addition to technical aspects, Bawaslu also highlighted the importance of regulatory readiness and the human resources who will operate the system. Without comprehensive preparation, it is feared that the implementation of new technology in elections will instead cause technical problems or public doubt regarding election results.
As a supervisory body, Bawaslu is committed to continuously monitoring every development related to innovations in the election system. They asserted that any change in the voting method must continue to prioritize the principles of honesty, fairness, and accountability for all Indonesian citizens.
In conclusion, the e-voting discourse is still in the early discussion stage. The government and election organizers are expected not to rush and to continue prioritizing system security so that the integrity of democracy in Indonesia remains well-maintained.
