Indonesian Government Highlights Use of Citizen Data for AI Training
The use of personal data of Indonesian citizens by foreign parties to train Artificial Intelligence (AI) has now become a serious concern for the government. Deputy Minister of Communication and Digital (Wamenkomdigi), Nezar Patria, emphasized that data is a very important asset in the development of AI technology in the future.
This issue has emerged due to concerns regarding how public data is collected and used without strict oversight. Many parties are questioning whether the practice of data usage by these foreign companies complies with the personal data protection regulations currently in effect in Indonesia.
Technology experts suggest that the government should immediately draft specific, binding regulations regarding AI development. These regulations are considered necessary to ensure that the data of Indonesian citizens is not misused and remains under secure control in accordance with national law.
Currently, discussions regarding data governance are being continuously held by the government together with stakeholders. This step is being taken to balance the progress of technological innovation with the protection of every citizen's privacy rights in the digital space.
Moving forward, the government is expected to provide clearer guidance for technology companies. This aims to ensure that AI development in Indonesia continues with good ethics and provides tangible benefits without compromising the security of public data.
