Serious Challenges of Drug Trafficking in the City of Education
Malang City, long known as the City of Education with over 62 higher education institutions, is now facing a quite serious social challenge. The region is striving hard to break the chain of drug trafficking that has begun to threaten the academic environment and the younger generation.
Its status as an educational hub should make it a safe place for students to pursue knowledge. However, in reality, narcotics trafficking is specifically targeting students. This phenomenon has become a major concern for both the police and the local government.
Sociologists note that the high number of newcomers from various regions in Malang City creates gaps for drug dealers to operate. They exploit the crowds and high mobility within campus environments to distribute these illicit substances covertly.
In response to this, law enforcement officials have begun increasing surveillance in vulnerable areas, such as boarding houses and entertainment venues around campuses. Furthermore, collaboration between universities and the community is essential for the early detection of suspicious activities in their neighborhoods.
Efforts to break the drug chain cannot be carried out by a single party alone. Solid cooperation between the government, educational institutions, and families is required to ensure that the City of Education remains a safe and productive place for the future of Indonesia's younger generation.
