BRIN Develops ANG Technology to Replace LPG, Indonesia Could Save IDR 26 Trillion

The National Research and Innovation Agency (BRIN) is currently developing a new technology called Adsorbed Natural Gas (ANG). This technology is designed as an alternative to replace Liquefied Petroleum Gas (LPG), which is widely used by the Indonesian public for household needs.

The development of ANG technology is being carried out as a strategic move by the government to reduce dependence on gas imports. Currently, a large portion of Indonesia's LPG needs must still be met through imports from abroad, which burdens the state budget every year.

According to available data, the use of ANG technology has the potential to provide significant gas subsidy savings for the government. If this technology is successfully implemented on a large scale, Indonesia is estimated to be able to save up to IDR 26 trillion in the subsidy budget.

Beyond the cost-saving factor, ANG technology is considered more efficient and environmentally friendly compared to conventional LPG. This innovation is expected to be a long-term solution to strengthen national energy security in the future.

Currently, BRIN continues to conduct various trials and further research to ensure that the technology is safe and suitable for use by the general public. The government hopes that this innovation can be implemented soon to support energy independence in Indonesia.
