Indonesian Government Focuses on Increasing National Soybean Production

The Minister of Agriculture of the Republic of Indonesia, Andi Amran Sulaiman, has just made an important statement regarding the soybean commodity in Indonesia. Having previously focused on rice supply stability, the government is now shifting its attention to increasing domestic soybean production in order to reduce dependence on imports.

This step was taken because the demand for soybeans in Indonesia remains very high, especially for the tofu and tempeh industries, which are staple foods for the public. So far, the majority of national soybean needs have been met through imports from abroad. The government wants to change this situation so that local farmers can be more empowered.

To achieve this target, the Ministry of Agriculture plans to provide assistance in the form of superior seeds, fertilizers, and modern agricultural technology to farmers. In addition, the government will also improve irrigation systems in various soybean production centers so that harvests can be maximized throughout the year.

Beyond technical support, the government also guarantees that the selling price of soybeans at the farmer level will remain stable. This is intended to make farmers feel secure and motivated to plant soybeans on their land. With price certainty, it is hoped that farmers' interest in switching to the soybean commodity will increase.

This program is expected to strengthen national food security in the future. If domestic soybean production increases, Indonesia will no longer need to rely on the international market, so the prices of tofu and tempeh in the local market are expected to become more affordable for the entire community.
