BMKG Warns of Potential High Waves in Indonesian Waters

The Meteorology, Climatology, and Geophysics Agency (BMKG) has just issued an early warning regarding extreme weather in several Indonesian maritime regions. People living on the coast or those planning sea travel are urged to remain vigilant regarding weather conditions over the next few days.

According to the BMKG report, there is a wind pattern moving from the north to the northeast at high speeds. This condition is causing a significant increase in sea waves at various points. Wave heights are predicted to reach a range of 1.25 to 4 meters in several open water areas.

Some of the areas affected by this warning include the waters north of Sabang, the waters west of Aceh to the Nias Islands, and the waters south of Java to Bali and Nusa Tenggara. In addition, high waves also have the potential to occur in the North Natuna Sea and the waters from the Sangihe Islands to Talaud.

BMKG urges fishermen and ferry operators to always prioritize shipping safety. Small vessels, such as fishing boats, are at high risk if they force themselves to go to sea when wave heights reach their maximum limit. Port authorities are also asked to continue monitoring the latest weather information before granting ship departure permits.

People living around coastal areas are also urged to remain calm but stay alert. BMKG will continue to update weather information through their official channels so that the public can obtain accurate and reliable data. Always follow the directions of local officials to ensure collective safety.
