Former Deputy Minister of Manpower, Immanuel Ebenezer Gerungan, commonly known as Noel, has been officially sentenced to prison. The panel of judges found him guilty in a corruption case involving extortion related to Occupational Safety and Health (K3) certification.
Noel was sentenced to four years and six months in prison. In addition to the prison sentence, he is also likely to face a fine as part of the court's decision. This case has drawn public attention due to Noel's previous position as a high-ranking official in the ministry.
Based on the facts presented in court, Noel was proven to have committed extortion during the K3 certification process. This certification is crucial for companies to ensure workplace safety standards for workers. Noel used his position to gain personal profit from the bureaucratic process.
