Taiwan Prepares IDR 9.7 Trillion Annual Fund to Help MSMEs Transform

Taiwanese President Lai Ching-te has just announced a major plan to support the small and medium-sized enterprise (MSME) sector in his country. Starting in 2027, the Taiwanese government will allocate NT$20 billion, or approximately IDR 9.7 trillion, annually to help business owners undergo digital transformation and innovation.

This policy was adopted as a strategic step to ensure that MSMEs in Taiwan remain competitive amidst increasingly tight global economic competition. President Lai emphasized that technological transformation is crucial for small business owners so they can adapt to market changes quickly and efficiently.

The funds will be used for various support programs, such as digital skills training for workers, technological assistance for production processes, and the development of new business models. The government hopes this step will strengthen the foundation of Taiwan's economy starting from the most fundamental business sectors.

For Indonesia, this policy is of significant interest because Taiwan is one of its major trading and investment partners. Many MSMEs in Indonesia have cooperative relationships with the industrial sector in Taiwan, so this policy change is expected to open up new opportunities for collaboration in the future.

Taiwan's move demonstrates the importance of government support in helping small businesses face the challenges of the times. With such a large and well-planned allocation of funds, it is hoped that the MSME sector can continue to grow and make a greater contribution to national economic stability.
