High Lead Content Still Found in Paint Products in Indonesia
A recent report from Prohealth.id has revealed alarming findings regarding the quality of paint products circulating in the Indonesian market. Although five years have passed since the initial warning was issued, many paint products still contain high concentrations of lead.
Lead is a hazardous chemical substance that can have adverse effects on human health. Exposure to this substance is highly risky for consumers, especially children who are in their growth phase. If inhaled or ingested, lead can cause serious physical and cognitive developmental disorders.
International and national standards have established a safe limit for lead content in paint, which is a maximum of 90 ppm (parts per million). However, test results show that a number of paint products in Indonesia still exceed this threshold. This indicates that oversight of paint product safety standards still needs to be improved.
Health experts are urging paint manufacturers to immediately comply with applicable safety standard regulations to protect the public. In addition, consumers are expected to be more thorough in choosing paint products and to ensure that the products used meet the health standards set by the government.
This issue serves as an important reminder for all parties regarding the importance of building material safety in the home environment. The government and relevant authorities are expected to take firm steps so that hazardous paint products are no longer sold freely on the market.
