Two Residents Die Due to Smoke Exposure from Forest Fires in Sumatra and Kalimantan
Two residents have been reported dead in separate locations, namely Sumatra and Kalimantan, strongly suspected to be due to smoke exposure from forest and land fires. This incident occurred amidst an increasing number of hotspots scattered across the region, which has caused air quality in several areas to reach levels that are hazardous to health.
The deceased victims are known to have come from different professional backgrounds: an online motorcycle taxi driver and a teacher. The families stated that the victims had experienced severe respiratory distress before finally passing away. This case serves as a serious reminder of the adverse effects of haze on public health.
Currently, the regions of Sumatra and Kalimantan are indeed facing major challenges regarding forest fires. The thick smoke blanketing the area is not only disrupting daily activities but also hindering visibility on roads and flight paths. Local governments continue to make efforts to extinguish hotspots to prevent the smoke from spreading further.
Health experts are urging people in the affected areas to always wear masks when engaging in outdoor activities and to limit physical exertion. Additionally, the public is advised to seek medical assistance immediately if they experience symptoms of shortness of breath or eye irritation due to exposure to the dense smoke.
It is hoped that this situation will serve as a call for all parties to be more vigilant regarding the potential dangers of forest fires. Faster prevention and response efforts are urgently needed to ensure no more lives are lost due to poor air quality in Indonesia.
