BEM SI Holds Protest in Front of DPR Building Demanding Free Education
The All-Indonesia Student Executive Board (BEM SI) alliance, together with the National Student League for Democracy (LMND), held a protest in front of the House of Representatives (DPR) building in Jakarta. This action was carried out to voice aspirations regarding education policy in Indonesia.
In their demands, the students urged the government to implement a free education system for all citizens. They believe that the current high cost of education is a burden for many families in Indonesia, resulting in unequal access to quality education.
In addition to demanding free education, the students also highlighted the welfare of teaching staff. They urged the government to provide decent wages for lecturers and teachers at various universities. According to the protesters, the welfare of lecturers is crucial to maintaining the quality of national education.
The students also stated that they would continue to monitor the deliberations of the Bill (RUU) related to education. They hope that the government and the DPR will listen to the students' aspirations so that the policies produced will be more in favor of the interests of the wider community.
The protest proceeded under police supervision. As of now, there has been no official statement from the DPR regarding a response to the demands submitted by the protesters.
